Chase

Chase is an 8 year Beagle/Hound mix. He's closer to Hound size, weighing in at 80lbs (he could stand to lose a few pounds), but he definitely sounds like a beagle when he bays! He's a senior guy who LOVES meeting people, and seems to really enjoy the company of other dogs too. Chase cannot go to a home with cats, as he thinks they make better food than friends.

Devin is available through Rowquin Rescue and his adoption fee is $300. He comes fully vetted, neutered and of course FREE lifetime training assistance.

Devin is a 1 year old mini bernadoodle who found his way to Rowquin after his owner could no longer care for him. He was in rough shape at first, but he cleans up pretty good! Now that he's looking better, and feeling better, we are HOPE-ing that we can help Devin learn some confidence and obedience skills so that he can find his happily ever after!

Devin's second week has been great. He made another friend with a dog named Ruby and continues to play with Dexter and Delaney. However, his biggest fad right now is people who are walking by with their hat or beanie in their hand. These people don't realize Devin is plotting and will sneak attack them and grab their hats from their hands and then plays keep away from them. In one day he probably stole half a dozen hats from unassuming victims. The funniest is when he plays keep away; he will throw the hat in the air and catch it like he's taunting for the fun of it and just to rub it in. For Devin, it's just another toy, but we are teaching him he can grab the hats but he must give them back.

Devin's first week has been awesome. After a few tentative days, Devin broke out of his shell and started playing with toys and with other dogs. He loves to play with Dexter, who outweighs him by 50+ pounds, and Delaney, who is about the same height but weighs 25 pounds heavier. Devin loves to walk under Delaney and tries to pick her up on his back while he's trying to bite her back leg. The funniest is when Devin is trying to catch up with Dexter and starts yipping like a squeaker. It was so funny it made me cry with laughter. Devin is quickly becoming my favorite dog so far. I can't help but smile every time I think of him.

CoCo - Central PA Animal Alliance

CoCo

CoCo is an 8 year old Australian Shepherd, but don't let the age fool you, he's still smart as a whip, energetic as ever, but also appreciates a cozy place to take a nap! CoCo ended up with CPAA after some very kind people found him in not such great circumstances and offered to take him into their home. While there they nursed him back to health, watched his beautiful coat become long and shiny again, and got him a clean bill of health! We did learn that CoCo would do best in a home without cats, and that he can be selective with his dog friends too. We're working on teaching him how to be less reactive to dogs, but he may do better in a home where he can be the only pet. Thankfully though, we know he does well with kids, men and women, so no limitations there. We love helping dogs like CoCo really thrive and learn how to be the best dog he can be!

Dexter

Dexter is a 1 year old pit mix, possibly a little Great Dane in there. In other words, he's a big boy, with totally floppy ears! He's such a happy, snuggly, loving boy and we just want to help find the BEST home for him. As typical with most pitties, he takes allergy medication and also has a sensitive belly. He loves playing with humans and all the other dogs in the Program, but doesn't always understand that not all dogs...(Penny)...want to be his friend. He's learning so much in the Program and we can't wait to see how this boy will bloom!

Hey everyone, what a beautiful week we had... for the most part. Me, Dexter, and his buddies, Delaney and Devin, spent a lot of time out in the dog yard. They were loving it. They got their NASCAR and their WWE in. As soon as one would lay down to take a break, one of them would come over and not let them. It was insane; we were like, "They have to run out of gas sooner or later". They didn't. They all enjoyed good naps afterwards though. Then the rain and cold came back, and the mud too. Let me tell you, thunderstorms do not bother Dexter, and there is not a puddle nor mud pit that he does not enjoy running through. He spent more time on our wash station this week than any other dog I've had. It's a good thing he doesn't mind it. If there is a puddle around, he will get the zoomies and run through it on or off leash. I bet he would do great in a creek or pool.

Hey everyone, Dexter learned how to get a bath this week without having to be secured on the table. He stood there and took it like a Champ. Believe me, after him and Delaney played a combination of NASCAR and WWE in our soaking wet mud plagued dog yard for about a half hour, they both needed it. He was almost unrecognizable, but they had the time of their young lives. Unfortunately, we didn't do a whole lot of training this week because I caught the bug that is running rampant in here. He was so good for me though when I wasn't feeling well, so I made it up to him today and just let him rock out and play and just be a dog. He's been doing so good with his training anyway. We'll get back to school next week. See you then.

This week Hi ya'll. Sexy Dexy has had another great week. I am proud to say that he passed his Level 1 obedience with flying colors. Soon we will test for his Level 2. Besides training, he spent a lot of time playing with Delaney or his Wubba. That's his FAVORITE toy made by Kong. He also spent a good bit of time playing with Wyatt and helping him to come out of his shell. It's funny when he plays with Delaney and she goes to the floor and gives up her belly. He will sit directly on her head. That's all fine and dandy until she grabs a hold of his ear and he gets up real real quick! Then he goes on his back and she jumps on top of him. They will play forever if you let them. When I tell him to take a break he will lay down and wait for round whatever to begin. He is such a cool pup. Yes, he still acts like a puppy sometimes, but we are working on it and he is getting better by leaps and bounds. See you all next week.

Another great week, Dexter has had an amazing week. He is doing great and has passed his Level one obedience this week. He's ready to start Level 2. He has become best friends with Delaney and loves playing with her almost non-stop. He is still a quiet dog and rarely barks unless someone else starts barking first then he joins in for a minute or two then stops. He rarely jumps on someone, he prefers to just come up and sit by someone. He also enjoys just sitting in the cell and watch out at the screen. He's still a big sweetheart and loves to cuddle and play. Right now he is laying at my feet as I am write this. He has found a home and I'm very happy for him and his new family. I'm sure they will love him as much as I do.

In his first week, Dexter is already proving to be one of the smartest dogs his handler has worked with. He is very food-motivated and a "biggest sweetheart" who loves meeting everyone. He is a "goof ball" who jumps in circles when playing with his best bud, Charlie. Ruby is helping him learn boundaries, and he is already ready to test for Level 1 Obedience. He is not destructive, rarely barks, and his favorite thing is to cuddle on a lap.

Delaney is what we call a Pocket Pittie, she's full grown at 1 year old and weighs in at 32lbs! She's full of life and love, and even though she had a very rough start to her life wandering the streets of Philadelphia with a lot of injuries, she's just the happiest little pitties you'll ever meet. We can't wait to see all the things she's going to learn!

Another fun week with Delaney. She is enjoying her play time with the new dog Devin. I think it's amazing how she will adjust the level of intensity that she plays at with each dog. She still loves Dexter the most; I think the reason for that is because he acts a lot like her sister used to be with the relentless energy antagonizing her. Devin also antagonizes her, but when Delaney gets vocal he backs off, not knowing that it's still all play. I also think it's funny how stand-offish she is when you don't have a treat for her. A lot of the time she goes to the end of the leash and just sits down away from everyone. And also she can give you the perfect ASPCA commercial sad look. It's heart-melting.

Well another awesome week with Delaney, the temperature has risen outside so she is coming alive again. She enjoys running in the grass and mud. Our dog yard is all mud but her and Dexter do not care, they play and play, rolling in the mud and all. Everytime Dexter and Delaney come face to face outside Delaney gets the zoomies. She is hilarious. Delaney got the zoomies between Ruby and Dexter and Ruby's handler didn't expect her to get them also and Ruby took off causing her handler to slip in the mud and fall, it was awesome. Her personality is so cute and funny, even when she gets mad she gets cuter yet.

Another amazing week with Sweet Delaney. She has really grown into her own personality with her sister gone. I think she could sleep all day in the cell if I was in there with her. She still likes to play with the other dogs especially Dexter. She likes to be chased, if Dexter catches her then she is done. Last night we let Dexter and Delaney run in the Dayroom for the first time together and man did they run. Dexter couldn't catch her on the slippery floor so Delaney just kept running laps until she was completely worn out. She laid on the floor while I wiped her down and then sprawled out on the bed until the morning. She woke up to eat her food and now she is sleeping again.

Another amazing week with Delaney. We got a big snow storm and she hates it. I took her in the yard in about 4 inches of snow and she looked like she was broken. So after the storm I shoveled a path around the perimeter of the yard and she wouldn't stray from it, she just ran laps for about 10 minutes and then her paws got cold. She also finally warmed up to the new dog Dexter so now she plays with him for longer periods of time than any of the other dogs. I don't know if she relates him to her sister or not but the play is more like she played with her sister. Dexter lets her be more dominant and they both love to play until we stop them because they get to crazy and sweaty.

Since her sister left, Delaney is learning she can be a "lazy dog" in the cell, often just laying down to sleep. However, she still has high energy in the dayroom. She hates the cold and doesn't care to play outside. She is still adjusting to the new dog, Dexter; she will play if he submits, but snaps at him if he gets too playful. Despite this, she is doing amazing and loves to snuggle.

Since her sister left, Delaney has had high energy because they used to play so hard together. To help, her handler focused on mental stimulation; in just one day, she learned how to back up, bow, and spin. The handler also kept her active during the day to prevent sleeping, which tired her out so much it took two days to recuperate. She is now back to her energetic self, and more training is planned.

So another amazing week with Delaney—she is extremely smart. We went for a walk to R-block and building #15 with the counselor and unit manager, so now she believes that whenever the women show up, we are going for a walk and she can go explore. I was in the yard with her playing around and I guess she was done because I had the leash hanging on the fence next to the gate, so she ran over and grabbed the end and looked at me. Her expressions are priceless. She has a really funny and cute personality.

So I was walking Delaney outside next to the flower beds when a vole took off and Delaney lost her mind. Now every time we go out to that spot, she has to check to make sure there is nothing there. Another day I was lying in my bed and she jumped up on me and then realized for the first time that there is a window there, so then every time someone walked by she would do a low growl/bark. It had me laughing so hard which would make her look at me all weird, which made me laugh even harder. She is nonstop entertainment.

When it's cold outside, Delaney plays for a little bit but doesn't last long before she wants to come inside. She runs to the gate, sits down and looks at me, then she runs to me and then right back to the gate. I got permission to let her run inside once everyone is locked in and she runs like a wild child, doing big laps around the dayroom for about ten minutes with her sister chasing her, and then she is done for the night. She gets so worn out from this that she sleeps on the floor where it's cool for about an hour before she gets in the bed. She is adapting very well.

My second week with Delaney was amazing. She is beginning to come out of her shell a little more. She loves to snuggle but also knows when it's time to go to her own bed, though she does it with a cute sad face that makes it hard to say no to anything. She is extremely smart and learns very fast, even though she likes to be stubborn at times. She is playing very well with Charlie and the rope; they play tug a lot in the yard and run back and forth while both holding the rope. She is making good progress with the resource guarding.

Delaney’s first week in the program was described as amazing, and she already has her handler wrapped around her paw. She is noted as the sweetest dog the handler has ever been around and has the endearing habit of sleeping upside down and snoring loudly. During this week, she successfully learned how to "down" and give "paw" on both sides. She is highly food-motivated, described as a "bottomless pit," and her handler is currently working on slowing her down while she eats to prevent her from choking. Delaney is very submissive, gets along well with other dogs, and loves to play, though she tends to get bored of playing tug-of-war rather quickly.

Wyatt is searching for a great family who is kind and has a fenced-in yard where he can run around and just be him. He likes to chill out in the back and chew on his bone. Loud noises and a large crowd of people would set off his anxiety. Normally I would walk him away and remind him that he is okay and then he will calm down. For the most part, Wyatt is a great dog who gets along with other dogs in his comfort zone. Wyatt is playful; he loves to play fetch. He has a really funny way of asking for something: he will nudge your hand or he will sit in front of you and try to give you a paw.

Wyatt is a good dog once he gets comfortable with his person he is very playful he like to play with you when you guys are together. Wyatt will swipe his paw at you run back and forth grabbing his toys teasing you into playing fetch with him. He will play with other dogs but most of all he loves to run. Wyatt need a fence in yard so he can be out more to express who he is. The funny thing that he will do is when it is time for him to go out-side he will run to the door but when I grab the leash he will run and hide but when I find him he will then throw his paw at me until I hook him up and then he is ready to go out.

yatt is a great dog once he opens up to you. You would realize that he is what you have been looking for in a family member. Wyatt love to be outside running around in the yard playing fetch and eating snow, Wyatt like to plays with other dogs and people once he feel like he can trust them. Wyatt have been through a lot so his circle is small once you enter his circle. You are in for life. Earning his trust is important to him he wants to be loved and give love back but first he got to trust that you will love him and protect him so he can be who he was suppose to be Wyatt a loving Dog.

Wyatt is a great dog he's been working on getting better every day. He loves to play catch and he is a very lovable dog once he gets to know you. He loves to cuddle and lay on the floor and play with all the other dogs. He will be a great companion for a family when they take him. He can be shy but once he opens up to someone he will be your best friend.

Wyatt is a great dog but can be sensitive to busy environments; if too much is going on, he tends to shut down and try to get away. He would do best in a quiet home with a big yard to run in. He plays well with other dogs and follows commands as long as he feels comfortable and secure. He is an active dog who needs things to do in a comfortable environment.

Wyatt is a "cool looking," chill, and mild-mannered dog. He can be a little nervous around large crowds and needs to be introduced to small groups at a time to get comfortable. Once he opens up, he is a "ball of fun" and loves playing chase. He is looking for a family with a big fenced-in yard where he can run. He will alert you when someone is there, but settles down quickly with a wagging tail once told it is okay.

Working really hard to overcome his fears, Wyatt has been going up to people saying hi and relaxing more around them. He also comes out at night to play with the two girls and checking out the place off-leash. He still has some improving to do but he's getting there. Slowly Wyatt has been opening up to me and I can tell he really trusts me because we could have never gotten this far with him overcoming some of his fears. Until then we will keep working on anything that stands in his way.

Wyatt is doing much better in here with all of the people and the movement that is going on. Wyatt still gets nervous around a crowd, so I’ll bring him around until he is comfortable and then let him walk up to say hi. It is a lot of work, but I want him to understand that it's okay to be loved. The CO's allowed us to let some of the dogs run around after count; at first, Wyatt was unsure what to do until he saw the other dogs playing. Now his confidence is building and he goes up to people to say hi. I'm proud of you, keep up the good work Wyatt.

Wyatt came to the HOPE program last Friday. Being in a new place had kind of freaked him out; he was nervous with all of the new faces and unfamiliar sounds. With a lot of work and being exposed to his new environment, Wyatt is now happy about going out for walks on the tier. He will approach some of the people here, slowly building up his confidence and coming out of his shell to be a great dog.

If Mikey looks familiar, that's because his sister , Hailey, had come through the HOPE Program a little while ago! Mikey is the last of his litter and we just don't understand why!!! He's such a sweet guy, a little nervous in the prison, but is a great boy who deserves a loving home of his own. Mikey is about 2 years old and seems to love everyone and every dog he's met!

Muddy Mikey, that's his new name! This boy does not care if its cold, raining, snowing, muddy, he will want to go out and play in all of it! And if he doesn't come inside covered in mud, you can bet that the other foster dogs in the house will have giant muddy paw prints on them! Of course, Mikey has no idea how those got there, and no one else is telling on him!

Its been about a month in his foster home and Mikey would definitely do BEST in a home with another dog that he can run and play with. His rescue requires a fenced yard for him, which he will thoroughly enjoy and use every inch of it. He does have a big booming BARK, especially when he plays or wants another dog to play with him. He loves just about any toy, any treat, and he's working at perfecting his begging eyes from a respectable distance away. He may need time to settle into a new home, and someone who understands that he may need help boosting his confidence in new situations. Even though he wasn't in HOPE very long, he still comes with FREE lifetime training assistance from the HOPE Program.

Happy New Year! Mikey is excited to get the new year started! He didn't seem to mind the fireworks, but to be honest most everyone was asleep before they started. He woke up with a few celebratory booms, looked at his foster mom, then the other dogs and laid his head back down. He's getting more settled and even more brave and confident each week!

This was Mikey's first Christmas away from his rescue. He got to meet and play with a new dog this week who was visiting his foster home. Mikey really loves to play and derives a lot of his confidence from other dogs. We're hoping that as he learns to trust his foster mom and HOPE Trainer that we will have more success taking him out to new places.

Mikey is settling into his foster home very nicely. He's already friends with the dogs here, has met a cat, and is learning a few new things too! He's focusing on "4 feet on the floor" because apparently most people don't enjoy being slapped with giant dog paws every single time Mikey gets excited. We're also working on confidence building because this big guy gets more than a little nervous when going to new places, and he tries to retreat back to his home. He usually wins too because this boy is HUGE!

Mikey left the HOPE Program today. He's going to be living with our HOPE Program Trainer so that we can work on his confidence and build up his basic obedience skills. Sometimes the prison environment isn't the right learning environment for some dogs. It can be loud and had sudden noises periodically. Mikey was always good with the other dogs in the Program, but when he wasn't playing with them, he was hiding away with his handler in their cell. Our Trainer will continue to give weekly updates Mikey's progress and we'll continue working to find him his forever home!

Mikey recently met the new puppies, Delaney and Delilah, and proved himself to be a complete gentleman. Despite being much larger than them, he was wonderful during their one-on-one meetings. He allowed Delaney to walk underneath him, which seemed to make her feel protected. While it can look scary when Mikey charges at Delilah at full speed, he always slows down to ensure she doesn't get run over. He even lays down on his side so that she can play with him more easily. His handler expressed great pride in Mikey's awareness and social skills.

Update with Mikey’s toilet foot. Nothing bad has happened and no diseases (for me or for Mikey!). However, Mikey did lose his buddy Booker (found him forever home!). Mikey, was always more comfortable when Booker was around but before Booker left he came over to Mikey’s door with a toy in his mouth. Instead of playing with it Booker dropped the toy off for Mikey to play with. It was Booker’s last and final gift and goodbye to Mikey. Obviously, Mikey was enthralled with the novelty of the new toy and still has Booker to thank for being a friend and support buddy.

Update with the alarm clock! Mikey has been taught he doesn’t need to be my alarm clock. However, he does get too excited at times and I need to work on him when he jumps up. First of all, he can jump higher than me (not a fan of that). Secondly, he’s much taller than me when he stands on his hind legs. Third, well let’s just say he got really excited and started jumping on me and his foot landed in the toilet. LOL. Bad enough, right? Well, it gets worse. He quickly got his foot out of the toilet and jumped up again, but this time as I’m telling him ‘off,’ he decides to stick his toilet foot in my mouth! If you ask Mikey, he said I opened my mouth and allowed it to happen. I can confirm this was not the case of any sort of consent. So, if I get diagnosed with mad cow disease or hoof and mouth disease, you know why.

Mikey has turned into my personal alarm clock. For the past few weeks Mikey has woken me up in a few different ways. Depending on how fast I respond to him. Sometimes he’ll whimper a little bit or just hovers over my face and breathes heavily. If that doesn't work he will slap me in the face with his paw. Ignore him some more and both his big paws are on my face. Turn to my side away from him and then he goes bonkers and jumps on the bed and digs on top of me like he's trying to dig to China. So, Mikey gets his way and finally I wake up. What time is it? Three in the morning. I'm going back to sleep. Finally have the alarm clock to wake me up at six in the morning. Progress!

Mikey has learned two of my favorite pastimes…eating and sleeping. I love sleep and I absolutely love eating. Mikey has taken the two to a different level though. Mikey eats like there’s no tomorrow. I don’t think there’s such a thing as a full stomach for Mikey. He also likes his sleeping, and out of all the places to take a nap, my bed is his favorite. For the past week he’s combined his love of my bed and eating at the same time. When it’s feeding time, he’ll eat with his back legs and half on the bed while standing on his front two legs. I was wondering if this is considered a bed and breakfast?!?

Mikey's third week in the program and he's starting to feel a little more comfortable with all the commotion and noise. Still have some work to do though. Mikey still loves playing with his new friend Charlie. They love to wrestle and chase each other around and everything is fair game, except when it comes to drinking water. Mikey wants the water all to himself. Not in a possessive way, but he won’t let Charlie drink any water, so Charlie tries to drink the water Mikey splashes out of the bowl. Absolutely hilarious to see. Charlie will try to maneuver closer to the water, but Mikey will squeeze Charlie against the wall and pin him there until he’s done drinking his fill of water. Loves to play but stingy with his water! LOL.

Mikey's second week in the program has hit a few hiccups but Mikey has made a new friend in Charlie. They love to play off leash together in the yard chasing each other around. The cutest part of them playing is when Charlie has a ball in his mouth and Mikey tries to take it from him by grabbing a hold of the ball with his teeth. Instead, it just looks like Mikey's huge mouth smothering Charlie's entire head. Charlie likes to tackle Mikey by taking out his ankle where Mikey's go-to is using his size. Sometimes I feel like a human bowling ball when Mikey is running away from Charlie. The two are way too fast and nimble for me to move out of the way, but small price to pay to see friends at play!

Mikey's first week in the HOPE Program has been awesome. Earlier this year I had Mikey's sister Hailey and they definitely are very similar. They both sit the same, huge, strong, and have a tinge of puppy energy but are reserved. Mikey is energetic but can relax and be a couch potato. However, when it comes to playing with a specific plastic blue ball, Mikey becomes obsessed. The ball is bigger than a basketball but Mikey is still able to puncture the hard plastic and carry it around. “Carrying” around is not the right word. He proudly displays what he's carrying and I don't blame him because no other dog has been able to do this. He's so proud of the ball he pees with it and YES, you guessed it…he will also take a poop with the ball in his mouth. As proud as he is, it isn't hard to get the ball from him and to “wait” until allowed to resume play. I'm proud of ALL of him!

Penny was pulled from a shelter in the Philadelphia area when they reached out and asked for CPAA and the HOPE Program to give her a chance. During her time in the shelter, Penny was overwhelmed with all the commotion and would spend most of her days spinning in her kennel and drool due to fear, stress, and anxiety. She was a volunteer favorite and knew that if she could just get out of the shelter, her life would change forever.

Penny went to live in a transitional foster home so that we could get to know her and help her decompress from the shelter stress. She seemed to really blossom in the foster home and we knew that HOPE could really help Penny meet her full potential. Penny can be slow to trust, but once she builds that bond with you, you'll always have her as a best friend! We are still learning about what kind of dogs she enjoys being around, or if she would like to be an only pet, so please follow her journey below and be sure to share her page!

Penny had a great week because she was able to blow off some steam in the play yard. There is a big blue ball that she loves and can't get enough of. She will play with it for 30 minutes non-stop. She barks at it; it's funny.

Penny has been having a fun week running around in the wet mud, but she hates getting baths. So it's a give and take with her. Penny is great and really enjoys playing tug until she is dead to the world. We can't wait until nice days so she can run around all day long, which she loves to do.

Penny has been good this week when it comes to playing with the other dogs and she's been loving the cold, crisp air. She had a vet appointment to update some vaccines and even though she needs some happy pills and a man-eater muzzle (lol), she did very well, better than previous visits. Happy to report that she is healthy and happy girl!

Penny is doing better with everything from living in jail to being okay with some of the dogs. Penny has found a new friend in Wyatt. They have run the gate together in the yard and she doesn't react to him at all. She wants to play with him which is a good thing. She loves running around in the snow and she is doing good with her training. She is going to be a great dog for anyone who takes her.

Penny is very happy now that the ground has hardened. She loves to run around and play but dislikes soft, muddy ground and rain. She has spent the last two days "running her lil heart out" and is a very happy dog.

Penny absolutely loves the cold weather and acts as if it is summer outside. She spent the week running around the yard with so much energy that her handler remarked she looked like she thought it was 80 degrees out. While Penny is doing very well, she shows little interest in the new puppies and reacts to them with her typical indifferent behavior.

Penny has been doing very well with her time, playing a lot and showing improvement in her comfort level around other people. She absolutely loves the snow and wants to play in it as much as she possibly can. Charlie has been tossed around a lot in the almost 2 years he's been alive, so when he is adopted this time it will be for LIFE!!
Charlie is a sweet soul that deserves a big yard and an active family.

Charlie can be "choosy" about his dog friends, but currently enjoys all the dogs in the Program, especially Sherman. They're an odd couple, but they LOVE to play together! Charlie may also do well as an only dog, but will need an outlet for his playfulness.

He doesn't seem to care about cats at all so he could easily live with one.

Charlie spent the week playing in the snow which seemed to make him a very happy dog. He has a lot of energy and he enjoys eating the snow while he is outside. Charlie is doing better with every thing, but his handler has found a small problem. He is a very good dog but gets bored easy.

Charlie and friends have been dealing with the snow. He could play in the snow for hours, though his pals don't have a big fluffy coat like his, so playtime is limited. Charlie sits and lays in the snow while the other dogs look at him like he's lost his mind; he loves to eat ice and snow. He recently spotted a small snowman at the far end of the yard, ran to it, and pounced on it. Now it is "his" snowman.

Charlie has been in a "goofy fun mood" this week. He was seen sliding around on the morning frost, pushing his face through it and licking it as he ran. He received new toys and treats this week, including a stuffed cow that has become "his new baby". He carries it around and rests his head on it when he takes naps.

Charlie was playing all week long with his girls Ruby, Delaney, & Delilah. He probably got half a dozen baths this week from rolling around in the yard with them. He likes to play tug while running, which seems to work the best to get his energy out. He is still doing well with his training and commands, but his favorite thing to do is socialize with people and other dogs. If you live in an active neighborhood or in town, Chuckles would love to explore and meet new friends.

Charlie has been at it again playing with the girls. He has really taken a shine to Delaney & Delilah. Charlie almost acts like a father figure or a fun uncle; he adapts his play style with them, being more gentle and teaching. When he plays tug with them, he will let them win and he will show them how to shake the toy and then he will watch them mimic his behavior. He seems to watch over them when someone new walks in. He will be great in a home with other dogs or children.

"Charlie Chuckles" had a busy week of play and training. We are still working on his "speak" command. He is learning to spin while standing up and walk backwards on his hind legs. We are also trying to get him to balance cookie treats on his nose, but he gets annoyed with me—it's funny. For Christmas, I got Charlie some Jack Link's beef jerky, which is his favorite. He can be fussy with some treats but not the jerky. He also got some tasty peanut butter and a new stuffed ghost that he sleeps on. Merry Xmas!

Charlie got to experience more snow this week, so we played in that as long as we could in the frigid temperatures. He has been doing well with the other dogs; he has played with the sisters more and really enjoys Taylor. We have also been working on a "speak" command so he learns when to bark and when not to. He has a tendency to growl and bark when he is frustrated that he can't talk like a human, so we are trying to install an "on-off switch" for him. Charlie is still fun-loving and a joy to be around.

Charlie has been very impressed with the two new puppies, Delaney and Delilah, and has taken an "older brother" approach with them. He is very gentle as they play and run together in the yard. His handler shared a heartwarming bedtime routine where they tell Charlie they are "taking his super powers" as they remove his collar. One night, Charlie sat up in the corner to have his collar removed and immediately fell over and went to sleep, looking exactly like a stuffed animal.

For week 23, Charlie was thrilled to wake up to snow and was truly in his element catching snowballs and burying his head in the drifts. He had a great time playing in the snow with his pals Mikey and Ruby. Charlie would stay outside all day if it were up to him, so his handler has to initiate breaks to make sure he comes inside. His handler hopes for many more snowstorms this winter so that "Chuckles" can continue to bounce around and frolic like a little Arctic fox.

Charlie had an active week playing. He also got to visit with my family on a video visit and see some of the other dogs at my house. I think we both wanted to there instead of in here,,,he had a bit of a sad face on. So after the video visit we went outside so he could wrestly with his girl Ruby, which seemed to turn his frown upside down. I told him that he would be at a nice home soon with people that love him just like the dogs he saw on the tv. If he could send him home with Merlin and Zeus, I would!

Charlie has been active all week being the great mouse hunter and playing with his friends. He saw a mouse climb into the bottom railing of the fence so we have been doing rounds to check and see if it is ready to play with Charlie. He and Ruby went on a visit and did really well together. Chuckles ran on the fence a bit with Booker. He likes to coax Booker over to the fence to run, then he prances away. He is doing his BEST to be emotional support for Mikey and getting him to play.

It is starting to get colder & more comfortable for Charlie and all of his fur. We got our first real frost of the season this week. When I took Charlie out for his morning constitutional he saw the frost, dropped his head, and started running along with his tongue out dragging it across the ground. This may be unique to Charlie because I have been around a lot of dogs, especially goofy ones, and that was a first! I am hoping he does it every time we get frost but I am excited to see what he will do when we receive a decent snowfall!

Charlie has an application in on him and was supposed to go meet his potential adopter, but we got crazy rain storms that day. So since Charlie was stuck inside with us all day, we rewarded him with a new toy. This is the strangest toy I have ever seen. It is a rubber chicken with tattoos and what looks to be a swim cap, a pair of swim goggles. Oh, and it’s also wearing a gold chain with a $ symbol, LOL. It’s got board shorts on as well. This thing makes the strangest noises and he LOVES it. So thank you to the sender for making all of us crack up laughing!

Charlie went out to an event called “Trunk or Treat” over the weekend. Charlie was dressed as a state inmate and he got to feast on all types of treats like pizza and fries. He really enjoyed his taste of freedom. He was a bit high strung after returning, so the next day we took him on a walk to the intake block where he was able to explore and see new people. Charlie is such a blast and will go on adventures with you or snuggle on the couch when it’s chill time.

Charlie noticed a mouse or a vole out in the dog yard on Sunday night and it flipped his world upside down. He now patrols the perimeter of the fence at night, looking for them. He saw something, or maybe just heard it a couple of weeks ago that grabbed his attention for a day or so, which I may have mentioned, but this is way more funny. He no doubt saw something this time because I also saw the grass move. He is so intense and I can't wait to see where this goes, LOL.

Charlie’s buddy Prime left us this week to go to his home, and Charlie was sad, waiting out front staring at the front door, waiting to play. So when Mikey showed up on Friday, Charlie wasted no time making friends with the giant puppy. Mikey and Charlie have been playing and hanging out all week like they have been friends forever. Charlie is a very social dog and I think he needs to play with other dogs on a regular basis once he is adopted.

Chuckles discovered the voles and mice this week, so he spends the majority of his time out in the dog yard running back and forth along the fence. I have yet to see one so I am just assuming that they are, in fact, there. I can’t help but excite him more by shaking the fence a bit to make the grass move, so he very quickly spins around to run back in the opposite direction. Since this behavior is a distraction from doing his business, I wait until he is done to start this game, LOL.

We took Charlie on a field trip today down to the RTU on F Block. Charlie did very well on his walk down and held it together for the most part while down there. It started to get a bit overwhelming for him with all of the unfamiliar people. I can only assume that he thought he was leaving, as we were so close to where he exited to go on his car ride to FOX 43 a few weeks ago. I can’t really blame him – I know it’s a lot more fun out there.

Charlie and I had a good time playing in the rain on Wednesday. Charlie enjoys splashing in puddles and rolling in the grass. He is such a fun dog to have. Everyone around here just loves him. People are always calling out for him and wanting to play with him. He is SO ready to find his home with a person or family that will love him forever. As sad as it will make me to not have him around, I really want to see him go and make others happy.

If you have been following along with Charlie, then you may recall that Charlie is a bee hunter. He loves to hunt bees and punch them in the face before he eats them. Charlie has taken down dozens of bees since I have had him without incident. Well, I think this week Chuckles got complacent and underestimated his opponent. Charlie went through his whole hunting routine and assumed he had dispatched his prey. I don’t know if bees can play dead, but this one did. So when Charlie tried to feast, he got a shot to the tongue. He is completely fine, and the look on his face was certainly surprise, but it remains to be seen if he learned his lesson. LOL.

Charlie got weighed this week and he is still a big furry 50 lbs. Charlie enjoys eating clean and working out, so he pays close attention to his figure. Since he has picked up a new wrestling partner in the afternoons with Prime, he has been toning up more. Charlie doesn’t care if it’s beach season, he is into staying fit year round. He has a ‘come at me bro’ attitude and isn’t scared to do two-a-days. Sometimes he will throw in an evening routine like soccer or some X-Fit. Charlie is a fitness nut!

Charlie and Ruby have been playing hard all week. The two of them love hanging out together in the dog yard and playing tug. It’s nice to see them enjoying one another’s company the way they do. Ruby will put Charlie in his place too if he won’t relax, which he needs sometimes. He still has some puppy in him, so it’s good to have a more mature dog teaching him manners. He has taught her how to play and come out of her shell. He is also getting good with his roll-over game. I am teaching him how to roll down the hill, so we will see where that goes!

Charlie had a fairly productive week with training. Full disclosure, Charlie “Chuckles” can be a bit stubborn. He knows a lot of commands but he likes to do things on Charlie’s time. If he doesn’t feel like training, he will either look at me like I have two heads when I say a command or, even better, he will lay down facing away from me. It makes other people laugh, which might be his goal. Other than that, he has been playing with Ruby out in the dog yard, and still missing Sherman and Ellie Mae.

Charlie is fascinated by the geese that we have here on the compound. He is an observer and likes to sit out front and watch all of the people and things that fly. When he sees the geese, he goes to a different place, like a type of hypnosis. He just sits completely still without even blinking. There is no aggression at all, just a paralyzing curiosity that is fun to watch. He is SO playful, I'm guessing he just wants to make friends!

Charlie had a great week despite his best buddy Sherman going to his forever home. They had a few final tug-o-war matches and said their goodbyes. “Chuckles” had fun playing with his girls Ellie Mae and Ruby. He played a great game of tug with Ruby on Tuesday in the dog yard. We learned this week that Charlie is QUITE the soccer player! He will play with basketballs in the dog yard until he can’t stand anymore, much like how he plays with Ruby, Ellie Mae, & Big Sherman. We just came in from the yard where Charlie Chuckles finally followed Ellie into the dog pool & stuck his face in the water. If anybody is looking for a super silly and playful pup, this is your guy! He is also all about the pets & the cuddles. Chuckles is always ready for attention!

Charlie is really coming along with his training. He almost has the basics down and he is getting good at roll-over and sit pretty. The issue he has with sit pretty is that he slips on the floor because of all of his FLUFFY hair. He is a real live stuffed animal. We have also found out this week that Charlie likes to eat bees. At first, I thought he was just observing, but it turns out Chuckles is a skilled hunter. He is still having a good time with all of the other dogs!

Charlie is doing well getting used to his new digs. He is a bit stubborn still, so his training goes strictly at Charlie’s pace. When Charlie is done, he will just lay down and stare at me, which is pretty funny. Charlie is still having a blast playing with Sherman every day. They love to play tug together and roll around. Charlie is a jumper and a pouncer, which is kinda what he has to do to get to the toy when big Sherman is playing keep-away.

Charlie has had another great week here, playing with his new friends. He is besties with Big Sherm, those two can play tug for hours or even just chill and lay next to one another. Ruby has also taken a shine to Charlie too! She enjoys playing in the yard with him. And then there's Ellie Mae too! What can I say, he's a friendly guy!

I have learned that he seems to be a bit stubborn, about eating and sometimes with training too. We're still figuring out what motivates him, other than playing with his friends. Overall, he's doing well and has come a long way in just two weeks here, and together we will continue to grow and learn.

Charlie's a funny little dog with a BIG personality. He is super sweet and has adapted well to his new home. He has made fast friends with the other dogs, especially Sherman. He and Sherman have already played off leash in the dog yard, the two of them LOVE to wrestle and play tug with the rope toys. Charlie is a bit out matched with Sherman's size, but Sherman goes easy on him with the tug. You would honestly think these two have known each other their entire lives!

I feel like Charlie is going to do just fine with the other dogs and his training. I also think (hope) he will find a home very quickly because he's such a great dog!

Ruby

Ruby is fully house-trained, very treat-motivated and eager to please, so she responds pretty quickly to training. She loves belly rubs and neck rubs and is shameless about it. She even lets her foster mom work from home as she quietly sits by the desk (most of the time!). With some additional love and training, Ruby could easily be the go-to-the-office dog.

She walks nicely on a leash (very little pulling) and ignores assertive dogs on the walks. She does, however, wants to chase those squirrels! She loves being with people and will be your shadow. She is very affectionate and loves laying on you or near you. She

is a great blend of active (she loves her walks and being outside), but also enjoys sitting on the couch for a few hours just to hang out with you.

She is a bit too interested in cats, so a no-cat household would likely work best. She would probably enjoy having a dog buddy, but it is not necessary. Ruby is the perfect blend of sweet, smart, and spirited, ready to find the loving home she's been waiting for!

The ground was saturated with surface water from rain and the snow melting from recent warmer weather. Ruby and I were out for a potty break. We saw two other Hope dogs engaged in muddy play on leash. Another person had called my name and conversation ensued. Without any warning I suddenly was in the air with my feet well above my head and falling backwards rapidly. With Ruby's leash in hand still, there was no catching myself. Yes ladies and gentlemen, she put me on my ass and back trying to play with the other dogs. My clothes were drenched with muddy water on my backside I nor others, could stop from laughing so hard. She got me (Haha) I blame it on my slick bottom sneakers. An immediate shower was needed and another memory was created for Ruby and I's future. She is loved by many, especially me.

There are so many things that Ruby already knows that have us both exploring what we can learn next. Now we are in our bag of tricks. We've been learning body parts. This is where I tell her to touch a specific body part. Such as Ruby touch my nose, eye, ear, and etc. She is doing quite well and always willing to learn. This week we let Delaney, Dexter, and Ruby run off leash for some fun time. Ruby really likes Delaney and the two play so well together. Delaney learns a lot from her and their play is more low key than with the boy canines. Way better behaviors. They love each other's company

The extremely cold weather has most of our HOPE dogs limited for the safety of over exposure. Ruby is 100% on board with it. She lets me know pup-sicles are not on her daily routine list. With all the salted walks and roadways from heavy snowfall, traveling with a canine in tow seemed useless. However, I was willing to try anything so her and I could get rec and fresh air. I filled a cart up with blankets and bedding being careful to make Ruby a comfortable spot so she could see out of the cart. I then placed her on a pillow high enough to see everyone and everything with a jacket and off we went. She loved it. It was as if she had a window opened in a car, sniffing the air and safe on the paws. Our rec days are spent in the dayroom and our cell. Ruby is an absolute pro at commands and socializing. Her and Dexter are now friends. Dexter has some growing up to do as most young dogs do and Ruby has no problem with teaching and absolutely no aggression. She walked away and sat and waited until Dexter was ready to behave. Ruby knows how to handle almost any situation.

Ruby is "spot on" with her behavior and requires no further training; she passed all three expected levels long ago. She is excellent at reading body language and remains focused despite distractions. She is lovable, relaxed, and shows no aggression toward people or other dogs. This week, she played off-leash with Delaney, and the two act like a mother and daughter. She is fully ready for her forever home.

Ruby is an expert at learning commands and good behaviors, which are taught daily. She has been socializing at every chance. She recently met Dexter, the new canine; her motherly instincts help slow him down so the younger dogs can play with him. They all play together off-leash now. She is always willing to listen and would be a great companion for someone willing to take a chance on her.

It is amazing how good a dog's memory can be. There are 64 doors on this block; Ruby will go to exactly the same ones to greet her friends. She does this without even using her sniffer. Once there, she'll sit outside the door and give a low raspy bark to see if anyone is there. All this for a belly rub or a possible treat. This week, Ruby put some playtime in with Charlie, Delilah Delaney, and Wyatt off-leash. Charlie will always be her favorite playmate for now, so there is a lot of fun, action-packed, hilarious times to enjoy for all of us. Other than that, our day is spent training, socializing, or just hanging out with one another. She is always on her best behavior for everyone to enjoy her company. So damn lovable.

I n 2025, Ruby and I shared weekly updates on her activities, behavior, abilities, personality, and how very kind-hearted she is all the time. So many goals were met in getting her ready for a forever home, with her staying relaxed throughout it all. With that said, our New Year's resolution for 2026 is to find out what it is that people want in a dog. There is not too much she doesn't know. Learning is rather easy for her. Her behaviors are fantastic every day. She conquered her loud noise fears and showers! Her recall is unmatched in here. The only thing missing in the book of Ruby is a forever home. So for 2026, help us make that happen. She would be a wonderful canine addition into your life. She even whispers now. Happy New Year.

We may not have had lights or a tree for Christmas, but that didn't take away from our enjoyment of each other's company. I wrapped up a decorated bone and toys she loves to play with. A little puzzled as to what they were, she used her sniffer and went straight to the bone first. She was cautious until she removed the wrapping newspaper, then it only took seconds for it to disappear. When our Christmas meal arrived, I made sure she ate right by my side. We finished our day with a long winter's nap. God Bless to you all.

In the past two weeks, three new dogs have entered the program. Ruby has been off-leash with each one of them with no problems whatsoever; she just minds her business with her well-mannered behaviors. Her and I are gearing up for Christmas. On the 12th day, she will be showered with wrapped dog boxes, a card, and a shared meal along with a Christmas hug. We will make a wish for a forever home to Santa from Ruby. I'm positive she made his "good girl" list.

With the recent introduction of two new puppies, Delaney and Delilah, Ruby has taken an immediate liking to both. While they have only had on-leash meet-and-greets so far, Ruby’s excitement and desire to play are very evident. Due to the cold weather, outside exposure has been kept to a minimum; Ruby isn't a fan of the cold, even with a jacket, unless there is play or snowballs involved. She spent much of her week socializing with large groups of people to stay comfortable. When it is time to go inside, she looks forward to snuggling up close to her handler.

This week was Ruby’s very first time seeing and touching snow, and as a rescue from a southern state, she initially looked quite puzzled by the experience. However, once she was off-leash, her excitement took over and the "zoomies" began as she ran and spun around like a juvenile. Her handler packed snowballs for her to play catch, and when she was joined by Charlie in the yard, it turned into a fun "schoolyard playground". Once this special girl finally slowed down, she began to shiver and looked for warmth, happily cuddling up close to her handler for body heat after a wonderful winter day.

Ruby was so Happy on Thanksgiving. Though our meat was quite small, I did share mash potatoes, stuffing and Turkey. I split it 50-50 in her bowl and thanked her for being such a sweet girl all the time. She wasted no time showing her appreciation and polished it off in ten seconds. Then we shared 1/2 a small cup of Ice cream and some Pumpkin Pie. After that it was rest and football. Well football for me anyway. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

This week I took Ruby to a building that is huge with an open floor. Once there she was taken off leash and free to roam at her own leisure. There were numerous people there who called for her to visit them. She had no problem saying ‘Hi’ and being showered with pets, some treats, affection, and her favorite, BELLY RUBS. The entire time she had a very noticeable smile on her face. Seeing her enjoyment really had us both feeling good inside. After a few hours we headed back to our living quarters where she took a long nap. If you are keeping up with her journals then we can all celebrate just how far this shy girl has come. Saying I’m proud of her is an understatement. She will make you happy to be a part of her life. I know I am.

I no longer have any problem whatsoever getting Ruby motivated. Rather a game of fetch or tug and playing off leash she is now geared up and ready to play. Our newest trick is getting her to jump off my back to catch a toy. There is no problem at all with it. Her athletic abilities are fantastic and so are her jumping skills. Right up over the back or on it to a snatch or catch. She's a natural. Who saw that in her? I did and her willingness to learn just to be by my side.

We learned together that she is not a fan of rain or cold weather. If you keep her motivated she'll stay in the cold but rain has her racing back to the door to go in. It's really funny because she will look back at you with a face that says, "Are you serious" it's raining out here. She truly puts a smile on my face everyday. Ruby has no struggles – she is 100% an awesome girl!

Ruby was on Fox 43 News this past Wednesday morning. It was a Furry Friends segment. She was dressed up for Halloween as a purple unicorn for everyone to see just how adorable she is inside and out. The entire time a smile was seen on her face. It was as if she knew the cameras were on her. If you saw her and how happy she was, this is how she is all the time with me. So well-behaved and lovable. It makes me very proud of her successes. Every day you will be shown just how much a trusted person means to her. For her, it’s all about kindness. Who doesn’t want that in their lives? Go ahead, check her out. You’ll see the smile on her face. It’s awesome.

It has been an eventful week for Ruby. She passed her Level 3 obedience, went out for a vet visit, and finally took a stroll to another area to see new people. A once very shy girl didn't bat an eye through it all. The confidence can be seen in her proud upright walk and the willingness to initiate friendships with people and other canines. The successes were earned and many milestones were achieved along the way. Hopefully this news is posted before it happens: Ruby will be on Fox 43 News, Channel 6 on Oct 29 (Wednesday) morning at 9:10 to 9:25 AM. If asked, Ruby will hop up on your lap or give you a nice long hug. She looks forward to some cuddle-up during down times and some initiated chase and play during yard times. She's a great listener with a willingness to make you happy. If it's just relaxation you want, Ruby goes with the flow. Every command is on point, and that's quite a bit. Her recall in any situation is 100% unmatched in here and I have no doubt she could be off leash wherever she goes. A canine who is so beautiful inside it allows her to be friendly to everyone she meets including other dogs. When you leave her and come back hours later, you're greeted with so much excitement it lifts your spirits as well. Trained and ready for a forever home. Because of circumstances out of the normal routine, the past 3 days allowed for very limited movement for Ruby and I. Much of our days were spent together playing inside. She didn’t seem to mind catching up on her beauty rest though. Once things went back to the norm, her energy stored was released to the fullest. Most of it was shared in play with Charlie. Zooming through the yard and dive-bombing Charlie. He took it in stride but couldn’t catch her before her retreats under the picnic table. She would lay in wait for just the right moment to do it all over again. This very hilarious behavior went on for a full hour.

The two were very exhausted and seemed very happy to release the stored energy!

Every night Ruby looks forward for her and I to spend some complete alone time in the dog yard. With nobody else around, we hang out with her on my lap listening to my little battery radio. Neither of us are picky to the music, but both of us really enjoy each other’s company. The last chance of our day for fresh air and relaxation. A great way to wind down the day. Her excitement to be there and her body language once there says it all.

In the morning, Ruby wakes up ready to eat at count time. If I try to ignore her and get some extra shuteye, she will give low raspy barks and jump all over me. She’s letting me know to get my butt up, I’m hungry! When I open her food bin, she dips in the bin for a little extra as I fill her bowl. Once she eats, she’ll snuggle up close until we are let out for her morning potty time. So damn cute. She’s ready for a home!

Watching Ruby and Charlie play is like viewing a wrestling match on TV. Only the skills of my WWE little Ruby are unmatched by Charlie. As she laid in the sun relaxing belly up, Charlie tried a sneak attack for an advantage to stand over her. Ruby took her hind legs and kicked up from her back, flipping Charlie over her head and in the same move ended up over him. The look on his face was priceless. Charlie’s handler and I laughed so hard. He just cannot match her skills at wrestling. The two love it though. A great friendship.

To the HOPE Journal readers: if you are looking for a cuddle bug who is friendly to all who meet her and is very disciplined to knowing all her commands, Ruby is 100% ready for a home. Once she knows you, she’ll steal your heart. So peaceful all the time. Take the time to meet her and you won’t be disappointed, I’m sure of it.

Ruby and I were finally given the chance to go for a walk to other buildings to meet and greet new people. I’ve been there before, but she hadn’t. Many new people and environments were introduced to her. As I predicted, she was an angel, doing commands suggested and even hopped up in a lady’s lap as requested. Her behavior is always a little shy and always very polite. Everyone commented on how adorable she is. This is a good citizenship girl for sure.

Ruby would like me to remind all who read these journals that whether it be bathing, brushing, clipping of nails, rubbing the belly, or giving out hugs, she is always a willing participant. Every day she’ll remind you of feeding times and relaxation breaks, just enjoying each other’s company. If you are looking for a forever friend, Ruby will be a GEM.

We spent the week sharpening Ruby’s skills and commands. She is a very relaxed girl who enjoys the sun in small doses and the shade a lot more. Playing with Charlie is where she burns the most energy. Ruby loves being by my side and snuggles up close for comfort. When she gets the zoomies it looks like a rabbit in a race…sprinting and hopping around with excitement. I’m proud of how far Ruby has come. A once nervous and very shy girl who now says “Hi” to all. Though she still doesn’t like loud banging doors the affect no longer has her wanting to leave. I’ve never seen her act out or lose her cool. Her sweetness will overwhelm anybody. The favorite part of her day is feeding times. If you mention the words “want to eat” or “are you hungry,” a low bark, tail wagging, and body swaying with enjoyment will have you laughing! She is a GEM to be around.

Every week is filled with progress when it comes to Ruby. Whether it’s learning commands, playing new games, or daily socialization, she excels. What she once lacked from shyness or fears no longer exists to her. Many others comment daily on how far she has come since her arrival. Most say how calm she is all the time or how pleasant her demeanor is. I say Ruby is just so damn cute and lovable that it makes her irresistible to be around all the time!

This week’s activity was to teach her to ‘play dead’ with a bang and my own game of ‘trust me.’ I cannot tell a lie – Ruby has 100% accomplished our goal. Both are now in her wheelhouse of ‘the shit I had to learn to prove I just want to be cuddled and loved by you.’ Now we HUG…a command she learned this week to make my girl happy. Ruby is so relaxing, you gotta love her.

I watched the local news and heard how the shelters are giving their animals away – a “clear the shelves” kind of deal. It is then that I know how much harder it will be for Ruby to find a home. This saddens me because unlike those shelter animals, this girl is given one-on-one undivided attention. During this time she is trained numerous commands daily and helped to overcome any fears, anxiety, or unwanted behaviors. She spends hours a day with myself and is surrounded only by people who took the time to know her. NEVER has she ever complained or acted out. Always displays a fantastic attitude no matter what situation she is in. 100% a sweetheart of a canine. For all those things I know she doesn’t care for; how does she reward me? With a bundle of excitement every time I leave and come back. Looks to be close and wants to be my bestie all the time. Never lets me down with laughs and happiness.

Though I am very happy for all the animals who were adopted in the giveaways, I am just concerned that Ruby’s achievements and kindness will be overlooked or outweighed for the word “Free.” Take the time to know a beautiful girl inside and out. She’s WORTH IT. I PROMISE.

Ruby still loves to play with Charlie. Most of all, she loves to play with me. Chasing one another around the table in the dog yard, she cheats a little and will run up over it with ease to jump on me. It gets her excited and the zoomies will have her doing figure 8s for fun. She is so much more comfortable now in her new environment. So many people come to say “Hi” to her now and many are recognized immediately.

Funny thing she did: I was sitting at my desk filling out my daily routine schedule and she started barking at me. This was out of the ordinary. I ask her what she wanted. She kept on it and I said, “What do you want?” So we wrestled some and I tried to finish my schedule. Still she barked and jumped up on the desk. So I gave her something to eat. Again she barked. I said, “Are you barking at me?” Then she ran to the door and put both paws on the door. I hit the intercom and outside we went. All that to take a pee. I was laughing so hard. She’s a gem.

I believe we all feel more comfortable and relaxed when surrounded with people we know or an environment we are familiar with. Ruby is the same way. When inside with 60 to 70 people around, along with all the loud noises, she is a little nervous. When she first came here, she wanted no part of it. Now Ruby sits among us all and lays down as well. Though she still isn't 100% relaxed, consistently introducing her has helped her cope tremendously. If another canine friend is near, she feels much better. Outside, her tail always wags because this is her comfort zone. Even though not everything has her 100% relaxed, this girl has always been extremely friendly to both people and canines. Most important thing of all is she'll ALWAYS dish out friendship and love. Very kind soul.

On any given day, Ruby will have a hundred plus people around her. This new environment had her very uncomfortable. She kept her tail tucked and shook because of constant doors slamming, people yelling, intercoms blaring, and new faces approaching all the time. You could see it wasn’t anything she experienced before. She just wanted to get away and go outside to her “feel good” safe zone.’

So every day I would and still do take her to those uncomfortable places and hang out for her to see everything is okay. Now she has a good size fan base who meet her daily to say ‘Hi’ in that same dayroom. Ruby also lays down belly up for people to rub as well. Outside will always be her favorite area, but she no longer tries to escape to that safe zone. Throughout it all, this girl has passed two obedience levels in that same dayroom and ALWAYS has been a total sweetheart. Her personality is impeccable and she’ll win every situation with kindness.

Ruby looks forward to her play time with Charlie and Ellie every day. Charlie seems to be her favorite though. Most of her time she looks for shade in the heat to relax in. She frequently strolls with her adorable strut to the wading pool for a quick dip to cool down on her own.

This girl is so much more comfortable off leash. Her recall is fantastic and you can count on her to stay by your side. There could be a parade of other canines in her view and if you tell her to stay, she's ALL IN – a very trustworthy canine.

Her favorite words are "Do you want to eat?", "Want to go outside?", "Go for a walk", and "Ready to go in?" She jumps and spins with joy every time. If you are looking for a very soft-coated, lovable dog who will give you it right back all the time, Ruby is the one.

I think Ruby has mastered how to look so in shape using very little energy. She LOVES to eat. If you mention anything about "eating" – "Do you want something to eat?" or "It's time to eat" – her excitement level has her paw smacking me, jumping off my chest, and giving kisses. More energy is burned during dinner time than most of her day (he, he)! She spends time with me in the yard when it's not raining, and socializing with many others inside when it does. We started side by side treadmill walking. It still needs some work, but she does just fine. It keeps her motivation away from "chill mode." We now wrestle with one another. She loves it. Approaching her at any time is so easy that she now has a huge fan base already. Just so cuddly.

Watching Ruby and Ellie Mae team up on any boy dog off-leash is so comical. Charlie nor Shadow know what to do except run. It’s like young schoolyard play. Ruby will now go jump in our leaking dog pool on her own. What once was hesitation and uncertain to her is now enjoyable – sitting and occasionally laying down in the cool water on hot days. If you like it outside, she loves it. A comfort to her. She is such a friendly canine. If you want a dog to hang out with you on or off leash, Ruby is that dog. Listens very well and is unreactive to other canines in close proximity. Most important – she is 100% lovable!

Ellie Mae and Ruby are now playing for longer durations. Ruby hops like a bunny rabbit and spins like a bucking horse during play. It is great to see her spunk revealed. She gets so excited to see me after I leave for a good amount of time. Running all through the hut spinning, circling, bouncing off me, and jumping on the bed to a belly up position for some affection. When asked if she wants to “eat” or “go for a walk” her excitement has her tail wagging and a smiley face with barks. Ruby likes the new boy on the block, Charlie. The two wrestle around on leash and play off leash already. I’m positive you could take her anywhere without a leash or any problems whatsoever. Just a relaxed girl all the time.

Ruby has learned to trust others a little more. She still likes smaller crowds. All basic commands understood now. She still struggles with loud noises and crowds over 10 people. Seems to be getting a lot more comfortable in her new environment and now recognizes many people when seen. Introductions to larger crowds and repeated door slams are still on our daily agenda.

Ruby REALLY loves to be outside hangin by my side. She comes every time when called and flops to her belly up position hoping to get a belly rub. If I leave the dog yard only for a few minutes and return, she’ll give me a wagging tail, a low bark and pounce on me with gratitude and excitement. Extremely happy knowing that I’m there for her. A real pleasant canine all the time!

She looks forward to seeing Ellie Mae in the yard to play with, or even inside too! Even though she is a low energy girl, the two seem to already know when Ruby has had enough play and wants to chill for some time. Sherman and her have also hung out off leash as well. Their energy levels match and the two lay side by side for some relaxation. You can tell how much more comfortable she feels!

We spent the week completely devoted to learning abilities and overcoming any fears of the new environment noises that bother Ruby. I’m very confident that she could pass her Level 1 and 2 already! Along with that, her comfortability with loud noises has become less concerning as she adjusts.

I no longer have to put her into the pool as she trusts me when I take my shoes and socks off to join in the fun! Ruby has shared the yard off leash with Sherman already! Their energy match was a must try and neither seemed to mind the other. They seem to just enjoy relaxing next to each other.

I’m still searching for ideas, toys, any specific information from those who may know her best, as to how to motivate such a chill dog. Maybe she’s just all about relaxing and generally enjoying life? Super laid back life style and pure sugar!

Let’s welcome a shy, very cuddly, polite, and quite fit canine into our HOPE Program. Her name is Ruby. She doesn’t like to play much (yet) and follows me wherever I go. Cuddling or being next to me for comfort is currently where we at, at the end of her first week. Many times throughout the week she has said, “Hi” to people and other dogs without any problems at all. A dog who is 100% a sweetheart and always kind.

We spent her first week working on commands as she really doesn't know too much at all (yet), but has started to pick up several things already. Loud noises make her nervous though. As long as she’s with me, the willingness to participate is there. Ruby prefers outside versus inside right now. Way more peaceful for the both of us!

Not a better way to beat the heat than to hit the water here! So I dug out the pool and filled it up twice in the past two days, just to keep her cooled off. No fears of the water and it seemed to put a little pep in her step. Ruby has already taken a trusting attitude with me and I enjoy her peaceful personality and company. Welcome Ruby!

Well, Cassie is leaving and I will miss her dearly! Poor Ellie Mae is losing her playmate but we made sure they got in their playtime all week and spent her last morning with us playing too.

Cassie’s new family has two dogs and family that goes for walks and hikes every day. They also get to go in the creek and even to the beach when it gets too cold here in PA! We’re all super sad to see her go, but super excited for her new adventure!

Cassie’s week went great! She went out on a home visit and it went well! Back here, Cassie got in the pool for the first time this summer too. She still loves playing with her “sister” Ellie Mae. They play off leash every day and I hope she has dogs to play with in her new home too. Cassie also ran along the fence with the new girl, Ruby and is trying to help her come out of her shell.

Cassie is getting better in all areas of her training! This week she had another playtime in the mud and Cassie plays with all of the dogs now too! They all make this funny sound when they’re on the gate it’s like they’re talking to each other in their own language, it’s really very cute.

Cassie has now learned how to speak and whisper! She still struggles when left alone sometimes she’s much better than she was at first and some days are better than others. She just loves people so much and I can’t wait for her to find her forever home!

Cassie had a great week! She played with Sherman off leash for the very first time and went great! Of course, her favorite playmate is still her "sister" Ellie Mae, but they all the time and always do so well too!

So Cassie and her Bestie Ellie Mae had a wet muddy wrestling match in the rain. It was so cute watching them run around with no care in the world! As they would roll around in the muddy water, they would just look at each other and then go right back to it. They had a lot of fun this week!

Cassie has really been struggling with walking on leash but she’s getting better and I could really tell this week! She’s also getting better with less crying when I have to leave her at times. She’s ready for her forever home.

Cassie had a great week here! She played in the muddy water in the yard with Ellie Mae and was a hot mess when they were done! But it was awesome to see them playing and being so carefree. Cassie also went for a meet and greet this week and surprisingly she did really well. Hopefully she gets paroled soon.

Cassie in this past week is making good things happen! Mainly, she’s found a new boyfriend in Booker! Not only do the boys compete for Ellie, but they’re competing for Cassie too! And she thinks she’s a player!!! Cassie shows her bossy side to the boys when she’s in the yard with each of them.

Cassie is doing great with her training too. She loves learning new things and will work for food or toys! Sometimes she’ll do things with just a command. Overall, she’s getting better with all of her things from playing with other dogs to her obedience skills.

Cassie continues to show improvements in every area. Cassie plays on a regular basis with Ellie May off leash and had a collision with Ellie Mae, but was okay. They are like teenagers that think they are indestructible! Cassie plays with her treats like toys. And it’s funny! Cassie also runs the gate with Roc & Booker. She’s walking better on leash without pulling as much. She learned to wait for her food.

Cassie has continued to get better with being alone in the cell. Cassie still plays with Ellie Mae off leash. Cassie runs around the yard like a crazy person as fast as she can! It’s so funny! Cassie also snores like a grown man, LOL.

Cassie wakes up every morning wanting to play before she goes potty. She smiles at everyone and they love it! People love to pet her and they say she’s soooo soft. She got a bath twice and did great. She’s a fast learner also. She played and ran the gate with all of the dogs with no problems and played off leash with Ellie Mae. She’s a wonderful dog!

Cassie is sleeping good and learning very well. She can sit, down, spin around! She recalls well also. Her and Ellie Mae off leash was beautiful! Cassie needs more help with crying when I leave. I wait until she stops to praise her so she understands that the praise comes when she stops!

Shadow has no idea what the New Year is, but I told him that his resolution is to not freak out when he sees the cat in the house. So far, he's not sticking to it. I told him that cat will murder him in his sleep, and I reminded him that he's a heavy sleeper and will never hear her coming. He still doesn't care.

He's still doing well with Mikey and Mouse. Mouse is fast and Shadow trying to keep up with her is cartoon-ish. He paws at her and tries to pull her closer, but she just ducks and dives away from him. Then Mikey comes running by and they're off together!

Christmas in a foster home consisted of a special breakfast of rice cooked in beef bone broth, ground beef, scrambled eggs, and TOYS! The amount of fluff that was cleaned up filled two huge garbage bags! Shadow and the other dogs were all exhausted and had full bellies!

We're hoping that we will find a forever home, or even a cat-free foster home for Shadow so that he doesn't have to return to the prison. We know he loved his time there, but he, like every dog, deserves to have a home, a couch, and soft, cozy blanket. Please consider fostering or adopting Shadow if you have a cat-free home!

Shadow has settled into his foster home really well so far! He's excited that Mikey is here and that Mikey likes to play with him. He doesn't understand why most of the other dogs aren't his friends (its because he likes to hump), but he has Mikey and dog named Mouse to play with and that's good enough for him!

We have learned that there is one thing Shadow doesn't like, or rather one thing that Shadow shouldn't live with, and that's cats! He makes quite the ruckus when he sees one and tries to run through the dog gates like the Kool-Aid man! Even though he's food motivated, we haven't found one that can distract him from cat activity, so when Shadow is out for playtime, the cats go away.

Sometimes dogs are adopted and they find their forever home; sometimes, they’re adopted for a short while and it doesn’t work out. And sometimes the fact that it didn’t work out was a blessing in disguise. Unfortunately, Shadow was returned to his rescue and we’re working on getting him back into the HOPE Program. However, that’s been put on hold for a few weeks because when Shadow was returned, he hadn’t been given his allergy meds as instructed and he came back a literal hot mess! Double ear infection, skin infection, hot spots, paws red, swollen and raw in some spots.

Turns out, Shadow didn’t spend much time in that adoptive home at all either, most of his time away from HOPE was spent at a boarding kennel with his rescue. Sure the adopter went to see him and spend time with him, but being bounced back and forth does not help a dog adjust to a new life. It does not help them thrive. On top of his medical issues, happygolucky Shadow returned as a dog who was more reactive to other dogs too.

Luckily, Shadow is being fostered with the HOPE Trainer so that they can work through both his medical and behavioral issues. Its been about 3 weeks there and we’re happy to report the reactivity is improving and he’s even enjoying playing with some of the dogs there. We’re currently working on his friendship with Mikey, another former HOPE dog! Poor Mikey though is learning that sometimes new friends like to hump him, and he just stands there and takes it. LOL

Anyway, Shadow is back and available for adoption through his rescue Rowquin. Please share and tell Santa that we really want him to have a home for Christmas and the New Year!

Well everybody, I got some good news. Shadow went out on a meet and greet last Saturday, and everything went good. Shadow met with the family and their dog. First, he introduced himself with warm hugs and kisses. He took treats from them, played with the kids, and gave a lot of loving to them. After that he met the family dog, and from there they were like best friends. Now Shadow is going to be a part of their family! I’m a little sad, but at the same time I’m happy because I know all of the hard work has paid off. To all of you who have been reading our journals, just know Shadow has finally found his family, his home. I’m proud of you Shadow. – Your handler

Shadow is doing good and living healthy. He is one of the better dogs here who loves people and other dogs. Shadow is laid back – he is always on CHILL MODE. Shadow loves going on walks and being around you. He can get along with other dogs, but I would like for him to be the only dog so he can get all of the attention that he wants. Shadow is a big cuddle bug. He will move your arm so he can lay next to you. Shadow has his level 3 basic training. He knows his commands and whatever else you tell him and all he wants is a good home!

Shadow has been doing good. Him and Penny ran the fence together yesterday and they did good. They both ran until they both were tired out of their minds. Shadow is doing great with people and his commands. We keep going over his commands to keep him sharp at them. Other than that, Shadow is still looking for a good home with a good family he can call his own.

Hello everybody. Shadow is one of the favorite dogs here. He LOVES the staff and the inmates – he is no stranger to new people. His personality is laid-back, but loving and caring is his thing. Shadow loves being around people—it doesn’t matter who you are, Shadow thinks you and him have been friends forever. Shadow likes to go for walks and be cuddled like a baby. Tug is his favorite game to play, or chew on a toy that he can rip up. Fetch is more like ‘you throw it, now chase me to get it back.’ He will keep you on your toes, but I love him just as much as he loves me!

Shadow has been okay for the most part, besides out at yard – he has been acting like he is sad. I think one of his best friends had left the program, Ellie Mae. Ellie Mae and Shadow were playmates. It didn’t matter who was out at yard, Ellie and Shadow would play like no one was out there. Now she is gone and his only friend left is Booker. They would run the fence like there is no tomorrow, they would only stop to take a break. It is not like Ellie Mae, where they could play off leash and drive each other crazy. I feel bad for Shadow. He needs a doggie friend, the one who could fill that empty space from missing Ellie Mae.

Shadow has been doing great. He has a lot of good energy. Shadow gets so excited when he meets new people – his tail just be swinging like windshield wipers on a hard raining day. He will lean into them, give them his backside to scratch, and then he will turn around to give them a kiss. Shadow loves to show off his affection toward people. He is a very loving dog who is just looking for his forever home and a family that he can call his own. Watching his doggie friends get adopted from the HOPE Program is giving Shadow hope that one day he will find his home. LOVE Shadow.

Shadow has been doing good this week. He has been playing with Ellie Mae nonstop – they play like kids at a birthday party! Shadow has high energy when it comes to playing, but when it is time to chill, he will just lay all over you. The funny thing about that one day out at yard, Shadow and Ellie Mae were out there playing. Ellie Mae came over and started laying on me. Shadow was like, ‘Hold up, that's my person!’ So he came over and pushed Ellie Mae out of the way, then he flopped all over me with his tongue out looking at Ellie Mae. I can tell that Shadow was jealous of her on me. That was SO funny for him to do that.

Shadow is such a people pleaser. He will go up to strangers and act like he knew them all of his life, showing off his commands and giving them love. He has no fear – he just wants to give love and receive love. All of the other handlers just love him and he loves them too. The other day we had all of the dogs out at yard. Shadow was so excited to play with them all. Him and Ellie Mae were doing good until he spotted Booker. Shadow broke off from Ellie Mae and started running the fence with Booker and all of the other dogs didn’t matter after that. Him and Booker ran until they both were too tired to do anything else. Other than that, all of the dogs had a good time together.

Shadow has been doing great. His energy is like a 2-year-old child. Shadow loves to play. His favorite thing to do is to make you chase him when you play with him. I can’t keep up with him, so I’ll wait until other dogs are out and then I will let him go to work. Shadow and Ellie Mae will go all day if we let them. Shadow likes it when I chase him, and I know I can’t keep up, but Ellie Mae – she will run him into the ground. They look like two kids at the playground taking turns pushing each other on the swings. It brings me joy to see Shadow having the most fun of his life playing with Ellie Mae.

Shadow is a great dog. He is very loving. Shadow LOVES the attention we all give him here – just about everyone here gives him love. Shadow likes it when you’re petting him and you hit that spot, which is the inside of his rear legs. When you get that spot, Shadow’s back half of his body will drop and he will hit the floor, LOL. Shadow is very funny. The other day I was feeding him in his slow feeder. I had to walk out for a minute and when I got back Shadow had taken his feeder bowl inside of his crate and he was laying beside it asleep. I thought it was funny to see his bowl inside of his crate right beside him while he was asleep. Shadow is something else! He will keep you on your toes, LOL, but most of all Shadow is a great dog. He will bring a LOT of laughter into your life! He’s been doing great with others and he’s VERY loving.

Good morning everyone! Shadow has been doing good playing with the other dogs and having a lot of loving from the staff and others here. Shadow is such a great dog, he loves all the attention that he gets on a daily basis! We spoil him on a daily basis, like all dogs should be!

Shadow loves to play fetch…well, technically its more like you throw it, he goes and gets it and then plays keep away so you have to chase him. He’ll stay just out of reach of you so that you have to chase him. And he’ll just stand there watching you, waiting for you to make a move before running off again. He’s got a huge smile on his face the whole time!

This week has been good for Shadow, actually every week is a great week for Shadow. He played like he’s never played before, this time with Ellie Mae. They were both gassed out but that didn’t stop them! They kept playing for another 30 minutes. We commented about how they would both sleep good tonight and when we got inside Shadow went straight into his crate panting and then immediately started falling asleep.

Later, I took Shadow back outside with Booker who loves to run the fence with Shadow. Unfortunately though, Shadow was still exhausted from playing with Ellie Mae, he didn’t have it in him for more play with Booker. Poor guy!

This week has been a playful week for Shadow! Prime example, this morning when I took him out to use the bathroom, as soon as I get him in the back yard, I take him off leash so he can go to his favorite spot. Shadow then takes off running, grabbing toys and running around with them in his mouth, instead of going potty. He always wants to play!

So I tried to hook him back up so I can walk him around for him to do his business. Every time I go to get him, Shadow takes off running in the opposite direction! Another Handler was outside and was just cracking up saying, “Shadow is making you work this morning!” So he came over to help me and it took both of us to catch Shadow!

Shadow has had a good week this week! His personality is really starting to come out! We did some training to keep him fresh after getting his level three basic obedience certificate. Shadow is so amazing at what he does and decided he’d rather be funny during training, than focused. I was going through some of his training steps, working on “lay down” and every time I said it, Shadow would lay down, then immediately roll over on his back! He’d be looking at me, wagging his tail, waiting on a belly rub so I had to give in. And then he kept doing it! Shadow thought it was funny and he clearly wanted to play, but I wanted to train! I do have to admit it was funny, but I couldn’t let him know that!

This week was a good week for shadow, he got the chance to play with Ellie Mae off leash! They ran the whole yard and Shadow chased Ellie one way, and Ellie chased him back the other way. They both seemed exhausted afterwards. Now every time he sees Ellie he just wants to play and play and play!

Shadow played with Sherman too and they do well together too! They were on leash and they were enjoying jumping all over each other, they just kept going back and forth, back and forth, up and down, up and down!

Shadow is such a good dog he makes me so happy. I'm always laughing at the things he does and I know he will do the same in his forever home! He will always be a source of endless entertainment and love!

Shadow has made a new friend and his name is Sherman! Sherman came into the HOPE program last Friday and from the moment Shadow saw Sherman, he just knew that Sherman was going to be his friend! Almost immediately they both played together on leash and they did great. Well, there is another one of Shadow‘s friends and during yard time they will run the fence, smiling and kissing each other! When Booker is out in the yard and Shadow is in the other Shadow will bark until Booker comes over to run with him. If Booker doesn’t come over right away, Shadow will cry until he does then both of them are as happy as ever running back-and-forth.

Shadow is such a great dog, he loves to be around other dogs and people too. Shadow wants to play with just about every dog he sees it doesn’t matter what kind of dog it is, to him every dog is a friend. Shadow just wants to play and make friends all day every day. People here just love his energy and they are amazed at how friendly he is

Shadow is looking for that place in someone that he can call his person in a house that he can call his home we were all really surprised to learn that he didn’t receive a single application from his debut at denim diamonds and dogs last month.

Shadow is such a chill and laid-back dog he gets along with everyone and every dog. Whoever ends up adopting him is getting the best boy ever! And I don’t think Shadow will ever be a problem for his future family, even with the free training that HOPE provides!

Shadow loves playing tug, going for walks, getting attention and just being around people and dogs. The one thing that I think is funny and that you must know about Shadow is that he LOVES laying on top of his crate! He loves it so much that I made a bed for him up there. He just likes to get up there and chill out. He can also see what’s going on outside of the cell from that vantage point too.

Shadow is one of the most happy dogs I have ever met! He just wants to go say hi to every single person (and dog) here. Shadow just loves sharing his love and he just seems to always put a smile on every face he sees. He's so loving and playful and I think its something really special to have a dog that has so much love to give that it NEVER runs out.

Shadow will do good with a family of any kind, I'm sure he will fit right in like a missing puzzle piece!

Shadow is a great dog with good humor, very playful and laid back when it is time to chill out. Shadow has made a lot of friends here – the staff that have seen him think he is a very sweet dog. When they approach him he will sit until I tell him to go say Hi, then he will go up to them, show love to them, and if they got treats he will kiss them. When they are done I will give him praise and say GOOD BOY. Shadow will do great with a family with yard space so he can run. Whoever gets Shadow will say to themselves, “This was a great pick!” He is very friendly. All he is looking for is love. Shadow is doing good around other dogs and still working on his level 3 training.

For the past 2 weeks Shadow has been training for his level 3 training test, which is more intense than a level 1 or 2. It is when your dog can follow his or her commands with distraction, off leash, and still can perform with no problem. I believe Shadow can do it. Other than that Shadow has been a great dog doing good with other dogs and loving the people here. They love giving him loving and treats – something he loves the most.

Hello everybody! Shadow is doing good. He is a special boy. Shadow brings joy to the guys in here – they love him just like he loves them. Shadow is very friendly, he will kiss everyone who shows him love. Shadow plays with other dogs and he don’t engage with hot headed dogs. Shadow will walk away from them. Other than that Shadow is very smart! When I be talking to him he will tilt his head like he’s understanding what I am saying. When Shadow finds his forever home I know he will do good and spread his love throughout their home. He’s still improving on his commands.

Hello everybody! Ever since Shadow has been here in the program he has been doing good. Shadow LOVES people – everyone he met he just has to give them a kiss. Shadow loves the attention, most of all Shadow is very dog friendly and he loves the female dogs, LOL. Shadow touched me the other day. I was watching a show called “Long Lost Family.” There was an episode that was very touching. Shadow was laying on my bed. The episode had hit me, I felt the joy of this woman being reunited with her son who was put up for adoption. A tear had rolled down my face. Shadow thought I was crying, he put his head on my lap then looked at me like he was saying “are you ok?”

He’s also learning his commands and getting better at them!

Good morning everybody. On March 8, 2025 I received Shadow. Shadow is a pit with a lot of energy and a BIG heart which is full of LOVE. Since Shadow came into the Program he’s been full of joy, greeting everybody with open arms, spreading his love everywhere. He’s not shy and he is eager to learn. I know he’s a gray pit but sometimes I think he might be a gray mountain goat because he loves to be on top of his crate, just laying there waiting on me to come back LOL. He also learned his commands in rapid time!

Shadow joined the HOPE Program today! So far he seems like a chill older guy who just wants to be loved and aims to please! He has the confidence of a guy who has overcome a lot in his life so far, and our goal with him is continue his journey from a dog with severe skin issues to a well-mannered gentleman who just wants a family of his own. Buddy

Buddy is a 3-4 year old pitbull mix and recently joined the HOPE Dogs Program on Friday, August 30, 2024!

Buddy is bundle of energy and he should be because when he was found as a stray here in PA, he tested positive for heartworms! Treatment requires that Buddy be very calm, and he sure did bundle up that energy for after he received the all clear from his vet! He came to HOPE to learn some basic manners and how to funnel some of that energy into more appropriate outlets. We look forward to learning more about Buddy and helping him be the besst doggie he can be!

Its been a looooooooooooong minute (months) since we’ve updated everyone on Buddy! He’s still being fostered by the HOPE Trainer (yes, that makes 3 HOPE dogs) and he’s doing really well. This will be his second Christmas with her and we just don’t understand why! He’s got fur that is as soft as a teddy bear, he’s adorable, the BEST cuddler, he listens well (with one ear always sticking up), and he just wanted to be YOUR BEST Buddy!

Buddy seems to prefer to be his own best friend. He does well with other submissive dogs, but generally seems happiest when he doesn’t have to share the bed, the couch, or a person at all. He thinks he’s the only love and entertainment that you’ll ever need! He heard that Santa brought a home for Booker and Ellie Mae and he’s hoping that maybe there’s still one out there for him too!

Buddy is a great dog, he loves to play, and everything is a game to him, which also means that training has to be a game too! He’s such a quick learner, and he catches on really easily, especially if I make it fun. And training should ALWAYS be fun, not just for Buddy, but for all dogs.

Sometimes I think Buddy thinks he’s a kid because he’s always trying to be on my lap or under my feet. When I need to lay down, even if Buddy is laying in his crate, as soon as I lay down, Buddy will come out of his crate and run to my bunk. He’ll sit right in front of it and looking from my bunk and then to me just waiting, hoping that I’ll give him the okay to jump up on the bed. Once I give him the okay, he will come up looking for his place to lay as soon as he finds that perfect spot, he will lay there and then get up just to lay all over me as soon as I get comfortable. And then, as usual, he will fall asleep in my arms.

Buddy is a great dog and I love how playful he is! Every time we do training, he thinks it’s a game! Everything is a game, all day, every day! He will definitely keep you smiling all day long. Since he got his Level 1 the other week, I’ve realized that he is a quick learner. Once he learns a new skill, he’s got it and he’s over it and wants to go back to playing.

Even though he’s got energy for DAYS, he also knows how and when to tone it down and just chill. As much as he likes to play, I think he likes to cuddle just as much! He also lays on you like he’s a human. Its just cute to see how he lays over me in order to fall asleep.

When Buddy meets new people, he acts like he’s known them his whole life! He greets them like you would and old friend, “Hey! I remember you! Where ya been pal?” and will shower them with affection. He’s just the best buddy a person could ask for!

Good morning everybody, I just need to let you all know that Buddy is a GREAT dog! He’s loving, playful and is a great cuddler too! Buddy gets along with the other dogs here in the program too. He will play with them all day along the fence if you let him. His favorite game is tug and when we play tug he tries to win by taking it away and then bringing it back again before I even have a hold of it!

Buddy REALLY enjoys going for walks too, getting pets from other people, and just going on adventures. Buddy will be anyone’s buddy and he will fall in love with everyone too! He brings love, joy and affection wherever he goes and he for sure will bring the kid out of you too!

We also wanted to let you know that Buddy completed his Level 1 Basic Obedience last week too! So not only is he playful, but he’s a smart boy too!

On Buddy's first day in the Program, he and I just connected. I call him my little cuddle buddy, since he loves to curl up next to me or just lay all over me. Buddy is a little playful thing and he just LOVES meeting people and he especially goes crazy for the ladies! As soon as he seen one, he will be all over them like, "Where have you been??? I've been MISSING YOU ALL DAY!" My little Buddy is the talk of the town and everyone just loves him!

Buddy just has this way about him that if you're feeling down, he just makes you happy. Buddy would do well in a home, and he is very playful but can be laid back when he needs to be. He will bring joy to anyone's life!

Macie is a 7 year old Plotthound mix. She is proper lady and prefers a house without too much noise and commotion. Well, Macie is still in a foster home after leaving the HOPE Program too! We just can’t believe it! While we know she’s got some lengthy requirements…only dog, no young kids, someone home more often than that not…we know that home exists for her! She was initially in a foster home where she was the only pet, but she had such severe separation anxiety that it became readily apparent that it wasn’t the best fit for her, no matter what we tried. She went back to be fostered by the HOPE Trainer (and if you’re keeping count, that’s 4 HOPE dogs, not including the one she adopted!).

Macie currently lives with a bunch of other dogs, much to her chagrin, and a couple cats too. She has her own room away from everyone else, and very occasionally spends time with some of the other household dogs, usually the seniors that don’t or won’t bother her. She’s spending her second Christmas there too. She hasn’t had much adoption interest but she thinks 2026 will be her year! And for all those folks who make New Years Resolutions about being healthier and walking more, Macie would like to remind everyone that after she had BOTH of her ACLs repaired, she’s a walking Queen and will keep you on track with your 2026 health goals!

Macie is starting to get more curious about her foster home, but not at all about the other dogs. She's decided that she does not LIKE them and would actually prefer if they didn't exist at all. She has learned that if she limps around Tractor Supply she get's LOTS of sympathy treats from each of the employees there, so she absolutely LOVES that part of the outing. However, she also learned that other dogs can go to Tractor Supply, and she finds this horrendous. She wanted me to ask to speak to the Manager, but I told her that would make me look crazy, since dogs can't talk!

Macie is doing well in her temp foster home, but she's definitely not a fan of all the large, energetic dogs in the home. She's like that person standing on the sidewalk yelling at all the cars to SLOW DOWN, but they just ignore her. She does seem to prefer the older dog in the home, but she will also read him the riot act if he comes up too fast, or lingers too long near her.

All in all, she's doing great, because if she's got the energy to yell at the other dogs, she' must be feeling better. She also likes to remind everyone when its dinner time, and she's not a fan of hitting that snooze button more than once or twice either! She's an early riser who enjoys her names throughout the day and a short brisk walk in the evening.

This week has been a little rough on Macie, due to the fact that Macie hasn't been feeling very well. She has a slight skin rash, which is bothering her, but we've been treating it while waiting for a vet appointment. She hasn't had an appetite either, so hopefully a vet appointment will help our girl!

UPDATE - Macie went to the vet and is now on medication for a double ear infection and skin infection. She in a temporary foster home with the HOPE Trainer, but we're hoping to find a more suitable or permanent home for our girl.

Well, this week Macie played fetch for once and she also now eats everything except her dog food! No matter how hard I try offering her food or waiting for her to eat, she will snub it! She tried some venison, and she seemed to love that! And of course she will each dog treats all day long, but not her food. LOL

She’s come a long way since she’s joined the Program, and I think her best skill so far is coming when I call her. She is an older gal so she’s not super-fast or super active, but that’s understandable. She’s still a little cautious around crowds, but she’s progressing every week.

Well, this week has been a little adventure. Macie has been adjusting to her new living quarter, but at the same time exploring her surroundings. More important than any of that, Macie gives me LOTS of loving! Kisses, paws, and even plays tug with me! She is starting to play with Callie and Louie too!

Macie is a little nervous in her new home, and sometimes struggles with wanting to leave the cell. Its safe in there for her, and outside the cell is a little scary. We're going to focus on building her confidence. She's also adjusting to the noises here, sometimes letting out a soft growl to say that she's not sure about what she just heard. We will continue to work with her and help her adjust!
