Cassie - Furry Friends Network

Cassie

Cassie is an 8 month old boxer/hound mix. She's happy, sweet, energetic, affectionate and seems to really enjoy dogs her size or bigger. She's a little too much for smaller dogs. Initially we will focus on basic obedience and working on her excitability when playing with other dogs.

Cassie is sponsored by Furry Friends Network.

Cassie reminds me of Dina when it comes to her energy level. Just seems as though her tank is rarely empty. The great thing about this is she is willing to learn new tricks and commands that match her energy. So this week I taught her a few new agility tricks. She will now jump over my back when I’m bent over to snatch a ball or toy. I simply have to hold it up and say the command “over.” Along with this, she’ll literally run up a wall in heights of well over 7 ft. You can catch her if you want. She loves the one-on-one attention!

Another thing I tried her on this week was the treadmill. I wanted to see how she would react. All I have to say is: she’s a natural. Cassie never blinked an eye at it. For now her duration is kept at 15 minute intervals. It will be tucked away for rainy days. I will say this – she LOVES people, meets other dogs without any problems whatsoever, and enjoys her sleep. When she knocks out, no waking her up. A very fun girl to have around.

Hello HOPE readers,

As you know by now, my girl Ruby is out there enjoying her new life in a forever home. I miss her so much and look through her pictures quite often. She stole my heart.

Now it’s time to welcome Cassie into the HOPE Program. Just this past Friday, 5/1/26, she was brought in. The first thing that caught my attention was how well built she is. A lean girl with muscles everywhere. She looks like a dog built for speed and agility. Her coat shines with a fawn-like color and her face has just enough darkness to set it off revealing her prettiness. I could feel my spirits lifting. It was time to rid the funk.

On her very first day with me, it was asked if Cassie and I would like to go for a walk to meet new people. With what I witnessed when she is around people, I saw absolutely no reason to say “no.” She loves people and greets them with a “smile.” Yes, a real teeth-showing “smile.” It’s hilarious – a hyena look.

We went to a block where inmates have mental and physical disabilities to cheer them up and then to another to say hi. She did just that, walked amongst them all allowing for petting and treats without any hesitation or distrust at all. A great start. Stay posted, time to test those physical abilities. I am excited to see how far we can take it. I’m sure it will be very impressive.

Guess who's back! Cassie rejoined the HOPE Program today for a refresher and some extra love while she waits for the right forever home. Cassie thrives when she can be the center of attention, so she's looking for a home where she can be the only dog; we are excited to work with her again to help her be the best doggo she can be, and we hope you're excited to continue following her journey!

Unfortunately, Cassie has come back to her rescue and will hopefully be rejoining the HOPE Program.  While her family LOVES her, Cassie never really vibed with the two other older dogs in the home.  Then ended up making the heartbreaking decision to return her to rescue in hopes that we can help find a better suited home for her.  We always hope that adoptions are forever, but sometimes returning a dog is what's best for that dog.  Please join us in welcoming Cassie back to the HOPE Family.

Well, Cassie is leaving and I will miss her dearly!  Poor Ellie Mae is losing her playmate but we made sure they got in their playtime all week and spent her last morning with us playing too.

Cassie’s new family has two dogs and family that goes for walks and hikes every day.  They also get to go in the creek and even to the beach when it gets too cold here in PA!  We’re all super sad to see her go, but super excited for her new adventure!

06/06/2025

Cassie’s week went great!  She went out on a home visit and it went well!  Back here, Cassie got in the pool for the first time this summer too.  She still loves playing with her “sister” Ellie Mae.  They play off leash every day and I hope she has dogs to play with in her new home too.  Cassie also ran along the fence with the new girl, Ruby and is trying to help her come out of her shell.

Cassie is getting better in all areas of her training! This week she had another playtime in the mud and Cassie plays with all of the dogs now too! They all make this funny sound when they’re on the gate it’s like they’re talking to each other in their own language, it’s really very cute.

Cassie has now learned how to speak and whisper! She still struggles when left alone sometimes she’s much better than she was at first and some days are better than others. She just loves people so much and I can’t wait for her to find her forever home!

5/23/2025

Cassie had a great week!  She played with Sherman off leash for the very first time and went great!  Of course, her favorite playmate is still her "sister" Ellie Mae, but they all the time and always do so well too!

Cassie is going to fit in nicely with a future family and no doubt she will make someone very very happy one day!

5/16/2025

So Cassie and her Bestie Ellie Mae had a wet muddy wrestling match in the rain. It was so cute watching them run around with no care in the world! As they would roll around in the muddy water, they would just look at each other and then go right back to it. They had a lot of fun this week!

Cassie has really been struggling with walking on leash but she’s getting better and I could really tell this week! She’s also getting better with less crying when I have to leave her at times. She’s ready for her forever home.

5/9/2025

Cassie had a great week here! She played in the muddy water in the yard with Ellie Mae and was a hot mess when they were done! But it was awesome to see them playing and being so carefree. Cassie also went for a meet and greet this week and surprisingly she did really well. Hopefully she gets paroled soon.

5/2/2025

Cassie in this past week is making good things happen! Mainly, she’s found a new boyfriend in Booker! Not only do the boys compete for Ellie, but they’re competing for Cassie too! And she thinks she’s a player!!! Cassie shows her bossy side to the boys when she’s in the yard with each of them.

Cassie is doing great with her training too. She loves learning new things and will work for food or toys! Sometimes she’ll do things with just a command. Overall, she’s getting better with all of her things from playing with other dogs to her obedience skills.

4/25/2025

Cassie now waits for her food by sitting on my bed and doing a trick before she eats it. It’s cute because she does it before I even say anything! Cassie has been learning a lot getting smarter and picking up on things very fast. I think she just likes to show off

Her new thing is trying to take over my bed, but I won’t let her she can’t be the boss of everyone!

4/18/2025

Cassie continues to show improvements in every area. Cassie plays on a regular basis with Ellie May off leash and had a collision with Ellie Mae, but was okay. They are like teenagers that think they are indestructible! Cassie plays with her treats like toys. And it’s funny! Cassie also runs the gate with Roc & Booker. She’s walking better on leash without pulling as much. She learned to wait for her food.

4/11/2025

Cassie has continued to get better with being alone in the cell. Cassie still plays with Ellie Mae off leash. Cassie runs around the yard like a crazy person as fast as she can! It’s so funny! Cassie also snores like a grown man, LOL.

Cassie is doing well with being alone in the cell. Cassie also learned spin around and ends with a treat!

3/28/2025

Cassie wakes up every morning wanting to play before she goes potty. She smiles at everyone and they love it! People love to pet her and they say she’s soooo soft. She got a bath twice and did great. She’s a fast learner also. She played and ran the gate with all of the dogs with no problems and played off leash with Ellie Mae. She’s a wonderful dog!

Cassie is sleeping good and learning very well. She can sit, down, spin around! She recalls well also. Her and Ellie Mae off leash was beautiful! Cassie needs more help with crying when I leave. I wait until she stops to praise her so she understands that the praise comes when she stops!

Cassie joined the HOPE Dog Program on Friday, March 21st.  We look forward to watching her learn and grow and we hope that you'll follow along with her journey and share her posts too!
