Henry - York SPCA
Henry
Henry is just over a year and a half old, and had already found himself at the York SPCA! Then a wonderful couple came along and fell in love with Henry and took him home. Henry lived there with two parents and two cats where they worked really hard to make sure everyone could live peacefully together. Unfortunately, after a lot of work, training, praying, hoping, Henry ultimately decided that cats might make better snacks than friends. They made the heartbreaking decision to surrender Henry back to YSPCA, but with the help of HOPE, we're all hoping to continue Henry's journey to make him more confident and calmer around other animals. Currently though, it would be best if Henry could live in a home with no other pets, and with someone who understands that he might not ever want any furry best friends.
Henry does LOVE, and we mean LOVE, people...and treats! He's learning about toys, and basic obedience training, and all the other things that dogs learn in the Program. We are confident that we can help Henry and the YSPCA find his happily ever after.
Henry is available through the York SPCA and his adoption fee is $160. He comes fully vetted, neutered and of course FREE lifetime training assistance.

Henry has been way more attached to my hip this week. We have our good days & bad with his anxiety. It seems like loud noises set him off more than anything. We use his stuffed pink warthog to comfort him & I rub his chest & say "shhh" to try to sooth him. He is having less of a reaction to the other dogs which is great. Keep your fingers crossed for this big teddy bear!

Henry is doing much better seeing the other dogs in the dayroom and way better on leash out in the dog yard. He is still losing his mind when he sees the same dogs out front. Our days are almost like the movie 50 First Dates. Poor guy has so much trauma that I think he forgets his name. He is learning to play with toys more and chew on bones. He now has a pink wild boar that he chews on. He is a HAPPY dog despite everything. We'll get him where he needs to be!

Poor Hank got stung by two separate bees on the same day, on the same paw! The first sting he took in stride and didn't let it get to him, but the second time was a different story. I don't know if the area was sensitive from the first sting, but I will assume so. You would have thought that he got hit by a car. He yelped, fell, and limped. So I babied him for the rest of the night while he kept holding his paw up to my face with a sad look. What a ham!

Henry is making more progress with not reacting to the other dogs. He most certainly has his moments when he sees the other dogs, but his reactions are far less severe. Two weeks ago, he was losing his mind and now there is less of a wrestling match. He is more willing to retreat with me and cool off. One thing I do is hold him firm between my shins and rub his neck scruff, which really seems to calm him. We are getting there. I can say he is WAY more comfortable!

Henry "Hank the Tank" is making great progress with his pattern games and his reactive training. He is becoming more tolerant of Wyatt, Delaney, and Devin. We have been focusing on training out in front of the dog yard while they are playing in the back. I have been able to have Hank give me his belly just outside the fence, so he is slowly letting his guard down. We are also learning how to play with toys. 😊

Henry aka "Hank the Tank" is a welcome addition to our dog crew. Although Hank is a very sweet and loving boy, we have a lot of work to do around other dogs. It is our belief that Hank may have been forced into situations with other dogs that were not ideal and not what this sweet boy is about. He LOVES people, hot dogs, and cuddles. He has become attached to my hip and I think with our hard work mixed with love, we will change his outlook.
