Sherman
Sherman is a 3 year old staffy mix with the best ears and the softest coat! He ended up at his rescue when he was abandoned tied to their fence and found by the morning shift volunteers! Despite his rough start with rescue, this guy is just happy to be with us! He loves to chill and just vibe!!!
Sherman is sponsored by ARI, Animal Rescue Inc, Kennel License 3441. You can apply to adopt him here, https://form.jotform.com/90533572444154.

Uneventful week for Sherman. He’s just even, calm, & cool in everything he does. Nothing seems to bother him – I wish I had his demeanor on life. Although I may not be him, having Sherman has enriched my life in ways hard to quantify or articulate. He reminds me to laugh, smile, enjoy, be grateful, and to feel so blessed. I just hope I can provide a little to Sherman what he gives to me – peace & love.

Sherman has made a new best friend and his name is Charlie. Charlie is a Husky/lab mix and the two hit it off right away. One of the first times they met, Charlie BOOPED Sherman twice with his paw. The two are so funny playing together. At first, Charlie liked to pull on Sherman’s face and drug him across the floor a few times but teeth leaves Sherman’s face a little sore. So, now the two play with toys together and watching the two play together makes both Sherman and Charles smile, and even bigger smiles on the handlers’ faces! Happy dogs, happy handlers!

Life with Sherman has been AWESOME! If I was a dog, I would want to Sherman because everyone loves him! People who never came close to dogs before want to ask to pet Sherman! Everything is fun for Sherman…brushing his coat, cleaning his ears, slurping, eating, clipping his nails, taking his monthly preventatives, taking a nap while also getting a bath, brushing his teeth, Sherman loves it all! He’s just completely trusting and just wants loving!

I believe Sherman is one of the funniest dogs I’ve handled! Every day Sherman comes up with a new sound! Most of his noises sound like a pig or a pug because he snorts all the time. However, he now has an array of piggy sounds that I’ve translated into English. He snorts when he eats, but also when he’s excited, tired, and even if he’s too hot…all of these have a particular snort to them. He even has snorts for playing with toys! The very best snorts are when you pet him though. If you lift his head up, he’ll meet your eyes with a big smile on his face and sounding like anything but a dog!
The other revelation we found about Sherman is when he’s playing with a toy and you start petting him around his hips, his fur starts sticking up and you can tell it tickles, like a horse. Its absolutely one of the funniest things I’ve seen a dog do!

Sherman has been consistent from Day 1 to Day 28 with HOPE. I thought as he gets more comfortable, the more energetic he’ll become. Well, it has been the same three speeds for him; slow, down, and stop. For Sherman, a walk consists of a few steps, then he plops down on the driveway and if you consider sleeping an exercise, he’s fit as a fiddle. Just when I thought he couldn’t be any more lazy, another dog handler was petting him and he fell asleep while STANDING! See, if he can top that some time this upcoming week!

Sherman hasn’t changed much from week one to now. He’s consistently funny cute loves to eat and sleep and he really likes to sleep in and I feel so bad waking him up because he reminds me of a puppy! He’s just an 80 pound puppy lol so, to ease into each day, I’ll get next to him and whisper in his ear that I love him. He may not hear it right away, but when his tail starts to move, I know he slowly waking up. I’ll keep repeating it to him how much I just love him, and with his eyes still closed he starts wagging his tail, faster and faster. When his eyes finally open and tail is going a million miles per hour. Then, and only then, can the morning begin and everything is just great! No better way to start the day than with and I love you!

Sherman continues to thrive in the HOPE Program. He's getting familiar with the routine and as continues to get more comfortable, he's making a ton of people-friends and doggie-friends too! Sherman's favorites are Cassie and Ellie Mae. He's played with both of leash and he tries to chase them down but he doesn't have the top end speed that he needs to catch them! The girls are faster and more nimble than Sherman but he really just loves the chase. When he chases Cassie, she will take a sharp turn, but poor Sherman will try to turn but he ends up sliding into the fence or wall and one time even took a tumble! He looked like a tin can rolling over and over! Undeterred, he gets back up, shakes it off and continues the chase again!

The first week with Sherman has been amazing! Sherman is handling the new environment better than any dog I’ve ever had. His two favorite hobbies are sleeping and eating and no, I did not teach those hobbies to him! He loves to sleep in, he loves to get attention, he snores like a freight train and use your leg as a pillow to nap on and just be by your side in general. He has spirit of energy, but relaxing is his thing… Bordering on what could be called lazy lol
The other day walking him Sherman stops all of a sudden. I looked to see what caught his attention and what do you think it was? A yawn. Yes, he stopped walking so that he could yawn. Once he was done, he went right back to walking again. He is just my speed!
